Violinist Jung-Min Shin joined the Nashville Symphony Orchestra Second Violin in March 2017, and is currently serving as the Acting Assistant Principal Second Violin. Prior to joining the Nashville Symphony, she was a violinist of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra from 2012 to 2015. She served as the Associate Concertmaster of the Evansville Philharmonic and the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra from 2008 to 2012. During her tenure with the Evansville Philharmonic, Ms. Shin was an Artist in Residence at the University of Evansville as a member of the Eykamp String Quartet. In addition, Ms. Shin served as the Principal Second Violin of both the Des Moines Metro Opera and Orchestra Kentucky. Ms. Shin also performed with the Detroit and Indianapolis Symphony Orchestras as an extra musician.
Ms. Shin has been an active soloist and chamber musician giving recitals and concerts in the United States, Korea, and Japan. Ms. Shin won numerous competitions including the Strad Competition, the Korean Philharmonic Orchestra Competition, the Music Journal Competition, the Nanpa Music Competition, and the Indiana University's Concerto Competition among others. She was selected as a member of the Scholarship String Quartet of the Toho Gakuen School and the Kuttner Quartet of Indiana University. As an avid contemporary musician, Ms. Shin performed with the Kolot Ensemble. As a member of the the Kolot Ensemble, Ms. Shin premiered new compositions, gave concerts and seminars for music by composers from the early 20th century to the present, and participated in the American Composers Alliance and the Institute and Festival for Contemporary Music festivals.
A native of Seoul, Korea, Ms. Shin began violin at the age of seven. She received her Bachelor of Music from the Seoul National University in Korea, Master of Music from The Juilliard School, and Doctor of Music from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. Additionally, Ms. Shin holds a Diploma of Orchestra Academy from the Toho Gakuen School in Japan. Her teachers include Kyung-Sun Lee, Hai-Eun Hyun, Hamao Fujiwara, Masao Kawasaki, and Mauricio Fuks.
Ms. Shin is married to the Nashville Symphony's Principal Cellist, Kevin Bate, and they have two daughters.
